Dear Gent,

I expect you are familiar with the circum-

stances in which we paid a contribution of 2100,000 to

da 1100% the Hong Kong Government in connection with an serodrome

at Kai Tak for joint service and civil use.

You will no doubt also be aware that at one time we contemplated stationing & Flying Boat Squadron there, but deferred doing so, and, in the meantime, started the provision of accommodation for the Fleet Air Arm Units based on Hong Kong.

We have now reached a position in which we find that we want more land, (a) for siting an officers' mess and (b) in order to provide the best possible layout for the buildings which will eventually be required if and when a Flying Boat Squadron is stationed at Kai Tak.

( 8 )

(b)

is an immediate requirement because we want to

start building the mess and involves our taking over an area of approximately 116,000 square feet to the North East of the aerodrome for which the Hong Kong Government have suggested to our local people we should pay $36,625.

is not so urgent and concerns a triangular area of land to the east of the aerodrome known. I tnink, as the gaol site. For this land the Hong Kong Government have suggested that we should pay $ 176,150.
